10 October is World Mental Health Day, a day established by the World Health Organisation to raise awareness and promote global debate on mental health issues. This anniversary is a key opportunity to reflect on the importance of psychological well-being, which is too often neglected, and the need to make support and care services accessible to all.

Mental health is a particularly relevant issue in the current context, where factors such as the pandemic, economic uncertainties and social pressures have increased the number of people suffering from disorders such as anxiety, depression and chronic stress. This year, the day focused on the importance of ensuring equal access to mental health, emphasising the need to overcome stigmas and barriers that limit sufferers from seeking help.

World Mental Health Day is not only a time to raise awareness, but also to promote concrete actions that improve the quality of life for millions of people around the world. Companies can also do their part: ensuring healthy and supportive work environments, investing in psychological support programmes for employees and spreading a culture of openness and understanding towards mental health issues are key steps for the future.

Just yesterday, we at Finking provided simultaneous remote interpreting for a webinar on how to deal with and overcome anxiety, a very topical issue today and one that we believe should be discussed more openly and without judgement in order to provide the necessary support to those who are forced to live with this condition every day.

Awareness is the first step to stop seeing mental health as a taboo and instead recognise its importance and start taking concrete action to preserve it at work as well.
