Veganuary is an idea originated by the British non-profit organisation of the same name and invites people to eat vegan during the month of January. The challenge was launched in 2014 and has expanded worldwide. This project was born out of the founders’ desire to protect the environment, avoid animal suffering and improve people’s health.
The vegan diet involves the elimination of animal products such as meat, fish, dairy products, eggs and even honey.

Studies have shown that a vegan diet has many benefits, such as improved cardiovascular health, and many nutritionists urge people to try a vegan diet. On a vegan diet, one consumes much more fibre and less saturated fat. But there may also be a risk of nutrient deficiencies such as vitamin B12.
In addition, the vegan diet is not recommended for people with a history of eating disorders, because restricting foods can cause relapses.
