This week, Venice was at the centre of an important UNESCO mission, a strategic meeting dedicated to the protection and enhancement of its extraordinary cultural heritage, one of the most fragile and celebrated in the world. For the occasion, Finking had the honour of offering simultaneous interpreting services, facilitating communications between UNESCO representatives, local experts, cultural institutions and city authorities, and thus supporting an open and productive dialogue on a subject of global significance.
The mission included numerous meetings, conferences and field visits, focusing on the main challenges Venice faces today. Among the most pressing issues discussed were the impact of mass tourism, which puts great pressure on the city’s socio-economic balance, and the need to preserve the lagoon’s delicate ecosystem. The threat of rising waters and urban erosion were analysed in detail in order to find innovative solutions that can safeguard the site for future generations.
Finking ‘s intervention allowed an exchange of ideas and experiences between representatives of different nationalities, who were able to confront each other in a direct and transparent manner, facilitating the formulation of shared and concrete strategies for the protection of the Venetian heritage. The experts involved were able to express themselves freely, with the guarantee of an accurate understanding without language barriers.
