February is the month of love, as we all know, but for us Venetians it is the month of CARNIVAL! Every year, our island becomes the stage for one of the most fascinating events in the world, a unique experience that transforms the city into a world of colours, costumes and mystery.
Masks are the true protagonists of this festival. The most famous, the Bauta, allows the wearer to remain anonymous, creating a magic and a shade of uncertainty that allows everyone to be whoever they want, at least for a few days. During Carnival, anonymity becomes a symbol of freedom, where identity dissolves and social ties fade to make room for creativity, imagination and fun.
Venice, with its narrow streets and canals, becomes an open-air theatre, where the masks dance, laugh, joke and blend in with the history of the city. The sumptuous costumes move among the historic buildings and help to create a dreamlike atmosphere, suspended between tradition and innovation.
