We have all surely heard of EXPO: an international event that brings together exhibitions, conferences and talks on topics of global interest, where each country highlights its own traditions and culture within a dedicated pavilion. This year, the event will take place from 13 April to 13 October in Japan, in the city of Osaka, on the artificial island of Yumeshima.
The Italy Pavilion at EXPO 2025 in Osaka is set to be one of the most fascinating and exciting attractions of the entire event, with the magnificent city of Venice taking centre stage during the opening week from 13 to 20 April.
Under the theme “About Venice, the most ancient smart city,” the exhibition space will offer a visual and auditory journey designed to showcase to the world the extraordinary cultural, artistic, historical and productive excellence of the lagoon city. Visitors will be transported to Venice’s most iconic locations, such as the Rialto Bridge and St Mark’s Square, through settings that combine art with cutting-edge technology.
During this week, Venice will coordinate and promote a range of initiatives involving cultural, economic and social institutions. For example, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice will take part with students from the Department of Asian and Mediterranean African Studies, who will act as linguistic and cultural mediators, supporting visitors in their experience of the Pavilion. In addition, Venice International University will present the project “Navigating the Archipelago of Venice: Lagoon Stories for Sustainable Futures.”
Objects from the collections of the Civic Museums will also be on display, telling the story of Venice’s traditions and history through the centuries, including the Bucintoro, the Winged Lion, the tailcoat, Murano glass and brocade. Visitors will also be able to engage with a vision of the Venice of the future through artificial intelligence, curated by H-Farm, which will interact with the public by offering scenarios of future development.
Furthermore, the Venice Boat Show will be featured in a dedicated event highlighting the importance of Italian shipbuilding and Venice’s maritime tradition.
A major highlight will be the performance of the Choir of Teatro La Fenice on 22 April 2025 at the prestigious “Festival Hall” in Osaka, bringing Venetian operatic art to the heart of Japan.
