From May 10 to November 23, 2025, the 19th International Architecture Exhibition, directed by Carlo Ratti, returns to Venice. The chosen title – Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective. – places an urgent, cross-cutting reflection at the center: how can architecture dialogue with the multiple intelligences of our time?
Not only artificial intelligence, but also natural, distributed, collaborative intelligence. The term Intelligens, deliberately untranslated, recalls the Latin etymology of the word and opens to a systemic reading: intelligence as a collective capacity to interpret and respond to complexity.
Carlo Ratti proposes a paradigm shift: architecture is no longer just called upon to mitigate the effects of climate change, but to actively adapt. From this perspective, designing means hybridizing disciplines, experimenting with materials, and questioning constantly changing uses and functions.
It will be a Biennale without borders. Accomplice to the absence of the Italian Pavilion, currently under renovation, the exhibition will extend beyond canonical spaces, activating new urban geographies. Venice thus becomes the stage for an exhibition that is also an intervention and dialogue with the context.
One of the key themes will be the circular economy, addressed through a manifesto shared with realities such as Arup and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. A concrete invitation to rethink the life cycle of architecture, valuing recovery, transformation and positive impact.
