This week, Venice was at the centre of an important UNESCO mission, a strategic meeting dedicated to the protection and enhancement of its extraordinary cultural heritage, one of the most fragile and celebrated in the world. On this occasion, Finking had the honour of providing simultaneous interpreting services, facilitating communication between UNESCO representatives, local experts, cultural institutions and city authorities, and thus supporting an open and productive dialogue on a matter of global significance.
The mission included numerous meetings, conferences and site visits, focused on the main challenges Venice is currently facing. Among the most urgent issues discussed were the impact of mass tourism, which places strong pressure on the city’s socio-economic balance, and the need to preserve the delicate lagoon ecosystem. The threats posed by rising water levels and urban erosion were analysed in detail, with the aim of identifying innovative solutions capable of safeguarding the site for future generations.
Finking’s contribution enabled an exchange of ideas and experiences among representatives of different nationalities, who were able to engage in direct and transparent discussion, facilitating the development of shared and concrete strategies for the protection of Venice’s heritage. The experts involved were able to express themselves freely, with the assurance of accurate understanding and without language barriers.
