On Sunday, August 10, Ocean Space will exceptionally remain open until 10:00 PM to celebrate the Night of San Lorenzo with a free evening of art, music, and stargazing. In collaboration with the Municipality of Venice-Murano-Burano, the event will take place across the Church and Campo San Lorenzo, offering activities for all ages: children’s workshops, guided tours, live jazz, and sky observation led by the Venice Amateur Astronomers Association.
Throughout the evening, visitors will also be able to explore the exhibition otras montañas, las que andan sueltas bajo el agua, with the support of the cultural mediation team, ready to share insights into both the artworks and the church’s history.
But why August 10?
Traditionally, the date marks the martyrdom of Saint Lawrence. According to popular belief, the bright trails in the sky are his tears. In reality, they come from the Perseids—a meteor shower caused by fragments of comet Swift-Tuttle entering Earth’s atmosphere every summer. It’s fascinating how language shapes meaning: from “meteors” to “shooting stars” to “tears” — different words, same phenomenon.
