We have all heard of EXPO, an international event that brings together exhibitions, conferences and talks on topics of general interest, where each country showcases its traditions and culture in a dedicated pavilion. This year, it will be held from 13 April to 13 October in Japan, in the city of Osaka, on the artificial island of Yumeshima.
The Italian Pavilion at EXPO 2025 in Osaka promises to be one of the most fascinating and exciting attractions of the entire event, and the beautiful city of Venice will be the star of the show during the opening week from 13 to 20 April.
With the theme ‘About Venice, the most ancient smart city’, the exhibition space will offer a visual and auditory journey that will showcase the extraordinary cultural, artistic, historical and productive excellence of the lagoon city to the world. Visitors will be transported to the most famous places in Venice, such as the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark’s Square, with scenography that combines art and cutting-edge technology.
During this week, Venice will coordinate and promote various initiatives involving cultural, economic and social entities. For example, the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice will participate with students from the Department of Asian and Mediterranean African Studies, who will act as linguistic and cultural mediators, supporting visitors in their enjoyment of the Pavilion. In addition, the Venice International University will present the project ‘Navigating the Venice Archipelago. Lagoon stories for sustainable futures’.
Objects belonging to the collections of the Musei Civici will be on display, recounting the tradition and history of Venice over the centuries, including the Bucintoro, the Winged Lion, the marsina, Murano glass and brocade. The public will also be able to engage with the Venice of the future thanks to artificial intelligence, curated by H-Farm, which will interact by providing scenarios on progress.
In addition, the Venice Boat Show will be the focus of a dedicated event, highlighting the importance of Italian shipbuilding and the Venetian maritime tradition.
A highlight will be the performance of the La Fenice Theatre Choir on 22 April 2025 at the prestigious Festival Hall concert hall in Osaka, bringing Venetian opera to the heart of Japan.
