The mission of UNESCO representatives in Venice is continuing. This morning, a further meeting was held at Ca’ Farsetti, focusing on the themes of sustainable tourism and the protection of the city. The meeting was attended by representatives of the joint mission of the World Heritage Committee, ICOMOS and Ramsar, respectively Réka Viragos, Bernhard Furrer and Tobias Salathé, as well as by the Italian Ambassador to UNESCO, Massimo Riccardo.
Also taking part in the meeting, together with the Councillor for Tourism Paola Mar and the Councillor for Urban Planning Massimiliano De Martin, were senior officials from the relevant municipal departments, Stefano Marchioro, Regional Government of Veneto representative for territorial projects and tourism governance, Emanuela Carpani and Francesco Trovò from the Superintendency for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Venice, Fabrizio D’Oria, Director of Communications at Vela, Alessandra Poggiani, Director of Venis, and Mattia Agnetti, Secretary General of MUVE.
The meeting focused on a comprehensive presentation of the projects launched for tourism governance, also funded through the Pact for Venice, the #EnjoyRespectVenezia awareness-raising campaign, and the initiatives aimed at enhancing and conserving the artistic and cultural heritage, as well as controlling short-term tourist rentals.
Particular attention was also given to the illustration of the access contribution measure and of the camera-based monitoring and people-counting systems used to quantify tourist flows, together with the coordination framework for pedestrian flows, mobility and wave motion controls, which will be implemented through the forthcoming activation of the Smart Control Room.
Finally, the UNESCO delegation was presented with the measures adopted to support residential living, including new public housing calls, and with the resolutions through which the Venice City Council approved the new regulations concerning building, commerce, productive activities, and urban and territorial security.
