On-Site Simultaneous Interpreting – This is a technique that consists in rendering a message from language A into language B (and vice versa) at the very moment it is being produced.
This technique is usually adopted in conference settings such as conventions, international events or seminars, meetings, or trade fairs where the audience is large, but it can also be used for events with a smaller number of participants.
In the case of a conference, the speaker speaks in their own language and the interpreter simultaneously translates for the audience present in the room. The audience listens to the interpretation through dedicated headsets distributed before the event.
The interpreter is usually located inside a soundproof booth positioned at the back or on an upper level of the room, from which they can see the audience. They work with a console equipped with headphones and a microphone: through the headphones, the interpreter receives the speaker’s message in language A and, through the microphone, transmits the translated message in language B to the audience in the room, and vice versa.
