Once again this year, Mestre’s famous ‘pink race’, promoted by the Venice Uisp, was held to raise funds for the fight against violence against women. On Sunday, 5 March, more than 1,000 participants took part in the event, wearing the characteristic pink T-shirt and running up to 10 kilometres to reach the finish line in Piazza Ferretto.
Along the way, several paintings representing works related to the theme of violence against women could be admired. Some of these paintings will be auctioned and the proceeds, together with those collected for the race, will be donated to support two different associations, the Ferrioli Bo Foundation of San Donà and the Iside Anti-Violence Centre of Venice.
Very significant were the words of City Council President Ermelinda Damiano regarding the purpose of the ‘pink race’: ‘The goal is to beat last year’s record number of registered participants, exceeding 900. In fact, the race is both a moment of sport and solidarity, but also an opportunity to ‘take back the city’, to show that it can, and must, become safer, even for a woman.”
The owner of Finking, Elena Finco, also wanted to participate in the race to make her contribution and get involved in the name of this just cause. You can see her smiling in the photo below.
In conclusion, we would like to thank everyone who took part in the event. We hope that more and more initiatives of this kind will be promoted and that in the not too distant future we will be able to eliminate all kinds of violence and abuse against women once and for all.
