On April 9th, the AITI General Assembly (Italian Association of Translators and Interpreters) was held for the first time in person since the outbreak of the pandemic. Members gathered in the beautiful setting of Genoa for an AITI-branded weekend, which began on Friday with a guided tour of literary Genoa and a social dinner featuring local specialties, and concluded on Sunday with a guided tour of medieval Genoa.

In between, on Saturday, April 9th, the General Assembly took place, during which important changes to the training regulations were approved. These changes ensure that all members, not only certified ones, must earn 10 continuing education credits per year in order to maintain their status as ordinary members. This news perfectly complements last week’s article on continuing professional development, since it is precisely thanks to the efforts of the association and those who work on a voluntary basis that professional translators and interpreters can be guaranteed adequate training.

The association is also open to young professionals who do not yet know how to take their first steps in the working world and need the guidance of more experienced and established colleagues.
