The month of October is dedicated to the prevention of breast cancer, the most common of female cancers, affecting more than 55,000 women in Italy each year.
The symbol of the Pink Ribbon Campaign against breast cancer is the pink ribbon. This campaign was created by Evelyn Lauder in 1989, after she discovered she had breast cancer. The Pink Ribbon Campaign, promoted around the world today, aims to raise awareness of the importance of prevention and to enable early detection of cancer, to promote better lifestyles to adopt, and screenings to be conducted according to age groups.
Here in Venice, several initiatives have been launched to foster Pink October: for instance, there will be the Vaporetto Rosa (Pink Waterbus) in the lagoon where, throughout the month of October, it will be possible to have breast examinations and attend lectures.
In addition, the Venice Marathon returns on 22 October 2023, where you can be part of the AIRC team, which runs to help fund scientific research into breast cancer.
