Working with couples involves a number of features that must necessarily be taken into account and that clearly distinguish it from individual therapy: not only the therapeutic relationship established with a couple, but also aspects of sexual intimacy, the partners’ confrontation, their verbal and non-verbal communication, and the interweaving of individual and family histories.
This programme, both theoretical and practical in nature, aims to address and present a number of themes and tools that can prove particularly useful in contemporary couple therapy.
It will do so through the contribution of some of the leading Italian and international experts in the field of couple therapy:
Tammy Nelson will propose an integrated perspective combining couple therapy and sex therapy, exploring their common ground and the tools that can enhance relational empathy and intimacy between partners, in the presence of sexual dysfunctions or following infidelity.
Ashley Randall will examine the tool of Couple Coping Enhancement Training, which is useful for identifying and addressing sources of stress within the couple, with particular attention to the perspective of minorities.
Paola Covini, Laura Fino, Alberto Penna and Dante Ghezzi will present a pathway in couple therapy from a systemic-relational perspective, exploring the different phases and analysing various approaches to the dynamics between partners, with specific attention also to team-based clinical work.
Umberta Telfener, in her seminar, will address the theme of “doing and enabling doing” with couples in therapy, since today words alone often seem insufficient.
