The Historical Regatta is the most important event in the annual calendar of Voga alla Veneta, a unique rowing discipline practised for centuries in the Venetian lagoon. The event is made even more spectacular by the famous historical procession that precedes the races: a parade of dozens of traditional sixteenth-century boats, richly decorated and rowed by gondoliers in period costume, carrying the Doge, the Dogaressa and the highest officials of the Venetian Magistracy, in a faithful re-enactment of the glorious past of one of the most powerful and influential Maritime Republics of the Mediterranean.

Today, the four competitions are divided by age categories and boat types. The most renowned and thrilling race is the champions’ regatta on gondolini, which speed along the Grand Canal to the finish line in front of the famous machina, the spectacular floating grandstand located opposite Ca’ Foscari Palace.

Finking provided simultaneous interpreting services for the live broadcast commentary of the regatta.
