As every year, Venice never ceases to amaze us through the great feast of games and colours that it organises on the occasion of one of the most eagerly awaited events in the lagoon city: the carnival. The theme that has been chosen for the 2023 edition is entitled ‘Take your Time for the Original Signs’.
The reference is to the signs of the zodiac and the symbols of the natural elements, such as water, earth, fire and air. The idea behind the concept, said artistic director Massimo Cecchetto, is to try to search within oneself for one’s original sign. The uniqueness and artistic appeal of the theme appealed to us at Finking, so we wanted to spend a few moments immersing ourselves in the magical atmosphere of carnival.
You all know the Finking sign by now, and personally we are very fond of it. The ‘little cloud’ of dialogue typical of comics is the main means by which characters communicate with each other and ‘speak’, albeit indirectly, to readers as well. The work we translators and interpreters do is very similar to that of the ‘little cloud’: thanks to translations, in fact, it is possible to connect and make people communicate who would otherwise find themselves divided by language barriers that are difficult to overcome. For us, being able to break down these barriers is what fills us most with joy!
