For the main event in the annual calendar of voga alla veneta races, a discipline unique in the world and practised for millennia in the Venetian lagoon, Finking provides the English-language speaker service.
The event is made even more spectacular by the famous historical parade that precedes the races: a procession of dozens of traditional sixteenth-century boats, brightly coloured and rowed by gondoliers in period costume, carrying the Doge, the Dogaressa and the highest officials of the Venetian Magistracy, in a faithful re-enactment of the glorious past of one of the most powerful and influential Maritime Republics of the Mediterranean.
